Blogging has become huge over the past few years. Travel, food, photography, beauty, parenting, interior design – there are several topics and interior design is one of the hottest trending topics in the world of blogging.

You can benefit in many ways by starting your own interior design blog. You can make the most of such blogs by showcasing your projects, educating the audience with the latest trends in interior design and make money by producing original and engaging content.

So, if you too are excited about starting your own interior design blog, this article is all about what you need to know to before getting started with your own blog:

RIGHT SETUP

Technically Speaking, You Need to Sort Out Three Crucial Factors for Setting up Your Blog Correctly. These Factors Are as Follows:

Domain Name – This is going to be the address as well as the host for your blog. Yes, you only require a single domain name for your website and blog. Ideally, the domain name should be such that it stays relevant even in the near future and is easy for people to find you online. You can customize it by adding your initials, your signature phrase or even your name. Avoid using a name that is being commonly used especially by others in the same business. Ditch the hyphens as they spell trouble when explaining to anyone. Don’t use homophones, i.e., words with similar sounds but different spellings.

Platform – WordPress and Squarespace are two of the most commonly used platforms. Both of them will save you a lot of hassles down some years as compared to other platforms. WordPress.com gives the choice of hosting free sites with limited control over what can be done with such sites. The other option is of self-hosted WordPress site which is sometimes referred to as the .org version. This is a paid option, but the control over its functionality is limitless. Squarespace comes with its own set of pros and cons, and it offers some functional advantages which may not be available on WordPress. Check out both these platforms to know which best suits your needs.

Host – Choose a hosting company from which you can get your domain as well. This will make your setup process a whole lot easier. Your host is where you will be renting a space so that you can be found online. With Squarespace, the hosting is inclusive. Whereas if you choose WordPress, you need to select a host separately.

Type of Content

After you cross the technical hurdle, you need to figure out the type of content you can blog about. Initially, generic content is fine. But to strike a chord with the audience and increase your reader base, you need to churn out original content which:

  • Offers solutions
  • Informs about the latest trends
  • Educates
  • Caters to those interested in DIY
  • Entertains

Making Money

Professional Bloggers Can Earn Handsomely From Their Blogs. Here’s How:

  • Put up ads on the site. You will need a substantial amount of traffic to earn from these ads.
  • Promote products and get a commission from the company when a reader clicks on the affiliate link.
  • Sell your own products and earn when someone purchases your products.
  • Get hired by your readers who love what you do.

Once your blog is up and running, all of your efforts should be focused on how to keep it running efficiently. With dedication and a bit of your imagination, you can carve an identity for yourself or your interior design business and achieve new heights of success!
